Sample interview questions
How would you prioritize a large inbound pipeline with leads at different stages and levels of fit?

I would first segment leads by fit, urgency, potential value, and buying readiness. I would set clear next steps in Salesforce for every active opportunity, prioritize high-intent and high-fit merchants, and use structured follow-up cadences so lower-priority leads continue progressing without being neglected.

How do you run an effective discovery call with an SMB merchant?

I begin by establishing the merchant’s business model, sales channels, customer profile, and current payment process. I then explore their goals and pain points, such as conversion, average order value, or customer experience, before connecting the relevant Alma capabilities to measurable outcomes and agreeing on a specific next step.

Describe how you would respond to a merchant who says they already have a payment provider.

I would acknowledge that an existing provider may be working well and ask what they value most about it, as well as where friction or unmet needs remain. Rather than immediately positioning a replacement, I would determine whether Alma can provide incremental value through merchant economics, customer experience, operational ease, or payment performance.

How would you use call recordings and coaching feedback to improve your sales performance?

I would regularly review recordings to identify patterns in my opening, discovery depth, objection handling, and closing language. I would choose one or two focused improvements at a time, practice them with peers or my manager, apply them in live calls, and track whether they improve conversion or next-step commitment.

What metrics would you monitor to manage your performance as an inbound Account Executive?

I would monitor lead response time, contact rate, qualification rate, meeting and opportunity conversion, pipeline coverage, stage conversion, sales-cycle length, win rate, and revenue or merchant activation against target. I would use these metrics to diagnose bottlenecks and adjust my activity mix, messaging, and follow-up strategy.
