Sample interview questions
How would you build a growth plan for an enterprise affiliate program that has plateaued?

I would first audit performance by partner type, placement, offer, device, customer segment, and incrementality where available. I would then identify gaps in partner recruitment, activation, commercial terms, tracking, and promotional cadence, prioritize a test roadmap, and set forecasted impact and success metrics. I would review progress with the client regularly and adjust investment toward the highest-quality incremental outcomes.

Describe your experience working with affiliate networks such as Impact, CJ, AWIN, or Partnerize.

I have used affiliate platforms to recruit and onboard partners, manage tracking and program terms, monitor performance, coordinate paid placements, and resolve operational issues. I use network reporting alongside internal analytics to evaluate revenue quality, conversion trends, partner contribution, and opportunities for optimization. My approach is platform-agnostic and focused on building scalable, well-governed programs.

How do you handle a difficult client question about underperforming affiliate results?

I respond directly with the relevant data, clarify the business context, and distinguish controllable channel factors from broader market effects. I explain what has been tested, what the evidence indicates, and the specific corrective actions, owners, and timeline. This keeps the conversation credible, constructive, and focused on measurable next steps.

What metrics do you use to evaluate affiliate partner quality?

I assess revenue, conversion rate, average order value, new-customer contribution, effective CPA or commission rate, placement performance, activation consistency, and incrementality when measurement permits. I also consider brand fit, audience quality, compliance history, and the partner’s ability to support strategic launches. Strong performance must be sustainable and aligned with the client’s profitability goals.

How would you identify and present a cross-sell opportunity to an affiliate client?

I would look for a documented performance gap or opportunity that another channel can address, such as paid media support for a partner launch or influencer collaboration for audience expansion. I would quantify the rationale using client data, outline the expected channel interaction, and bring the appropriate internal experts into a concise recommendation. The client presentation would focus on business value, measurement, investment requirements, and a clear implementation plan.
