Headspace is hiring a part-time, 1099 psychiatrist to provide virtual psychiatric care to members through a HIPAA-compliant telehealth platform. The clinician will conduct tele-psychiatry sessions, complete clinical documentation within 24 hours, maintain licensure records, and collaborate with an interdisciplinary behavioral-health team. Candidates must be MDs who completed an accredited psychiatry residency, are BE/BC, have at least three years of clinical psychiatry experience, and are eligible for the Interstate Medical Licensure Compact. I begin by confirming privacy, consent, identity, and the patient’s location, then use a structured assessment while maintaining a warm, conversational approach. I assess presenting concerns, psychiatric and medical history, medications, substance use, mental-status findings, functional impact, and safety risk, and document a clear treatment plan.
I use evidence-based prescribing, review indications and contraindications carefully, reconcile medications, discuss risks and benefits, and establish appropriate monitoring and follow-up. I also coordinate with the patient’s other providers when needed and follow all applicable state and federal prescribing requirements.
I perform an immediate, structured risk assessment and identify the patient’s precise location and available supports. Based on the level of risk, I create a safety plan, involve emergency contacts or local emergency services when clinically necessary, document actions thoroughly, and coordinate follow-up care.
I communicate concise, clinically relevant updates while honoring consent and privacy requirements. I clarify roles, align treatment goals, make referrals when appropriate, and ensure that medication decisions and care plans are coordinated across the patient’s support team.
I maintain continuing medical education, review peer-reviewed literature and clinical guidelines, participate in professional consultation, and reflect on outcomes in my own practice. I incorporate new evidence thoughtfully while individualizing treatment to each patient’s needs and preferences.

We are currently seeking an IMLCC eligible 1099 licensed psychiatrist contractor to provide direct, virtual care as part of a multidisciplinary team. Psychiatrists will provide care only to members who reside in states in which the clinician is licensed.
The hourly rate range for this role is $185 -195 /per session. Pay rate is determined by a number of factors, including but not limited to location, skills and scope required, relevant licensure and certifications, and unique relevant experience and job-related skills.
Contractors are expected to provide a minimum 10 hours a week of availability. More is always welcome, depending on your schedule.
Due to the nature of healthcare services provided to our customers, partners and members, all work must be provided in the U.S. Data, specifically personal health information, may not be accessed, disclosed or used outside of the U.S. Please note that the U.S. is limited to the 50 states of the United States — it does not include U.S. territories like Puerto Rico.

What you will do
Direct Care
- Provide high quality, innovative, tele-psychiatry to Headspace patients over a HIPAA-compliant video conferencing platform
- Complete, sign and lock clinical case notes within 24 hours of session
- Maintain your personalized database to record proof of licensure, license updates, expiration dates, personal information, etc.
- Stay up to date with clinical leadership communication (checking and responding to emails in a timely fashion)
- Work with a collaborative care team including mental health coaches, other therapists, psychiatric nurse practitioners, and external care providers
Required Background
- Must be available for at least 10 hours per week
- Night and weekend flexibility is a plus
- MD with completion of accredited psychiatry residency – BE/BC
- A license to practice psychiatry
- Licensure in multiple states is highly valued, specifically MUST be IMLCC eligible
- Cross licensed and/or willing to cross license in multiple full scope of practice states
- 3+ years experience providing clinical psychiatry services
- Experience with tele-psychiatry highly valued
- Willingness and confidence to integrate cutting-edge technology into all aspects of your care
- Clinical competence in psychopharmacology and in evidence based practices (CBT, DBT, ACT, Mindfulness, etc.)
- Knowledge of current research to integrate into your practice
- Familiarity, comfort and confidence with technology – various applications, tech tools, Google web-apps, video conferencing, EMR, etc.
