Sample interview questions
How would you improve PO compliance and reduce invoices paid without approved purchase orders?

I would first establish a baseline by vendor, department, exception reason, and dollar value. Then I would implement clear intake and approval workflows, enforce three-way matching where applicable, define documented exception paths, and publish compliance metrics for accountable leaders. Regular reviews with Procurement and Operations would address root causes rather than repeatedly processing exceptions.

Describe how AP and AR transaction errors affect the general ledger and financial close.

AP errors can create inaccurate expenses, liabilities, accruals, tax reporting, and cash forecasts, while AR errors can distort revenue, receivables, deferred balances, and bad-debt reserves. I ensure transactions are controlled at the source through master-data governance, approval controls, reconciliations, cut-off procedures, and timely investigation of variances before close.

What metrics would you use to manage billing, collections, and AP performance?

For AR, I would monitor DSO, aging by customer and segment, unapplied cash, dispute volume, collection forecast accuracy, and bad-debt trends. For AP, I would track PO match rate, invoice cycle time, exception rate, on-time payment performance, duplicate-payment incidents, and cost per transaction. These measures should be reviewed with owners and tied to practical improvement plans.

How would you prepare AP and AR processes for audit testing under public-company standards?

I would document each end-to-end process, identify key risks and controls, define control owners and evidence requirements, and test whether controls operate consistently. I would also maintain clear reconciliations, segregation-of-duties reviews, approval records, and remediation logs so that auditors can efficiently validate both design and operating effectiveness.

How do you lead offshore or BPO finance teams while maintaining quality and accountability?

I set measurable service levels, detailed SOPs, role-based training, quality sampling, and consistent escalation paths. I use recurring operating reviews to evaluate accuracy, backlog, turnaround time, and root causes, while ensuring team leads understand the accounting impact of their work. Strong communication rhythms and shared documentation create consistency across time zones.

Opportunity details

About this role.

Dandy is transforming the massive and antiquated dental industry—an industry worth over $400B. Backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms, we’re on an ambitious mission to simplify and modernize every function of the dental practice through technology. As we expand our reach globally, Dandy is building the operating system for dental offices around the world—empowering clinicians and their teams with technology, innovation, and world-class support to achieve more for their practices, their people, and their patients.

About the Role

We’re hiring a Senior Manager, Payment Operations to lead accounts payable and billing and collections as one function. You’ll own procure-to-pay and order-to-cash from end to end, with teams across the US, the Philippines and Colombia.

This is an accounting-led role. AP and AR sit at the start of our financial data. When an invoice gets paid without a PO, or a bill goes out at the wrong price, the problem lands in the general ledger weeks later. We want a leader who understands the accounting impact of every transaction and builds controls to get the data right at the source.

Dandy runs high-volume physical operations: two US manufacturing labs, dental practice and DSO customers in several countries, a large vendor base and multiple legal entities. You’ll bring accounting rigor and scale to the teams behind every dollar in and out.

What you’ll do

Accounts Payable

  • Own the full procure-to-pay cycle: vendor setup, invoice processing, PO matching, approvals and payment runs.

  • Enforce PO compliance and three-way match with Procurement and Operations.

  • Manage domestic and international vendor payments across entities and currencies, in partnership with Treasury.

  • Own vendor master data quality and 1099 reporting.

Billing and Collections

  • Own billing accuracy, credit controls and pricing controls across practice and DSO accounts.

  • Run cash application and collections, including a clear process for large DSO accounts agreed with Account Management.

  • Support the bad debt reserve with aging analysis and collection forecasts.

Controls and Close

  • Design and document controls over procure-to-pay and order-to-cash, including segregation of duties, built to public company audit standards.

  • Deliver AP and AR subledger reconciliations, accruals and cut-off on the close calendar.

  • Serve as the main contact for auditors on AP and AR testing.

Team and Systems

  • Lead the AP and billing and collections teams, including managers and team leads, with clear SOPs, training and quality checks.

  • Automate invoice capture, approvals and collections workflows in NetSuite and related tools.

  • Set and report on core metrics: DSO, aged receivables, PO match rate, payment accuracy and cost per transaction.

What success looks like in year one

  • Every invoice paid against an approved PO or a documented exception.

  • A working collections process for aged receivables and a lower DSO.

  • AP and AR reconciliations complete early in the close, with no audit adjustments.

  • Documented SOPs and controls for every core AP and AR process.

What we’re looking for

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance

  • 8+ years of experience, including general ledger or public accounting, and 3+ years leading AP, AR or finance shared services.

  • Hands-on knowledge of how AP and AR transactions hit the general ledger, accruals and revenue.

  • Experience in an operational business with high transaction volume: manufacturing, distribution, healthcare services or logistics.

  • Experience leading offshore or BPO teams across time zones.

  • A track record of building controls and passing audits, ideally under SOX or PCAOB standards.

  • Multi-entity and multi-currency experience.

  • Advanced Excel and strong NetSuite or comparable ERP skills.

  • A builder mindset: you fix the process, document the fix and train the team.

Bonus Points

  • CPA preferred.

  • AP automation or billing system implementation experience.

  • Healthcare, dental or medical device industry experience.

  • High-volume B2B or usage-based billing experience.
