Sample interview questions
I would begin with a short diagnostic conversation and targeted practice questions to identify specific misconceptions. I would then create a focused learning plan, reteach concepts using appropriate examples and visual models, and check progress regularly through guided and independent practice.
I use interactive questioning, a virtual whiteboard, worked examples, and frequent opportunities for the student to explain their thinking. I vary activities and connect problems to the student’s interests where possible while maintaining a clear lesson structure.
I would break the process into small steps and use a balance-scale analogy to show why the same operation must be applied to both sides. I would model one example, solve another collaboratively, and then ask the student to complete a similar problem while explaining each step.
I would give specific, constructive feedback that highlights what the student understood, identifies one or two priorities for improvement, and recommends concrete next steps. I would also share progress indicators and practice suggestions in language that is encouraging and easy to understand.
If a student progresses quickly, I extend the lesson with application problems or enrichment questions. If they need more time, I revisit the prerequisite skill, simplify the task, use alternative representations, and adjust the pace without making the student feel discouraged.
