Description:
Trying to figure out how to negotiate salary when I donโt have an official offer yet but want to avoid undervaluing myself. Every time I try, it feels like I get stonewalled or ignored.

mention your market research first. Quote specific salary ranges from reliable sites. Drop hints about other interests or offers subtly. Ask what budget exists for the role. Use confident tone - no begging. Redirect if they stall: "Whatโs the typcal range here?" Keep it casual but firm; avoid ultimatums early on.
That stonewalling feels awful. Stop asking for a number first. Give your range after they name theirs. Say: "For roles like this, I'm targeting $X-$Y." Back it with 2 data points and 1 recent win. If they dodge twice, ask for the hiring timeline.
Skip salary talks before fit is clear; ask about scope, level, and budegt band after 15 minutes, then anchor your range to 3 comparable roles and one measurable win
