Corporate Development M&A Financial Modeling Valuation Strategic Partnerships Market Research Investment Banking Cross-functional Leadership SaaS Deal Execution

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Deal Lead, Corporate Development position at HubSpot. With over 4 years of experience in investment banking and corporate development, I have a proven track record of executing complex M&A transactions and driving strategic growth initiatives.

My expertise includes financial modeling, valuation, and cross-functional collaboration, which aligns perfectly with the requirements of this role. I have successfully led deals from sourcing to integration, managing multiple stakeholders and delivering results in fast-paced environments.

HubSpot's mission to help organizations grow better resonates with me, and I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to your corporate development strategy. I am eager to bring my skills in market research and partnership building to drive impactful acquisitions.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to the possibility of discussing how I can add value to HubSpot's team.

Can you describe your experience with M&A from end to end, including deal sourcing, due diligence, and integration?
I have led several M&A deals from initial target identification to post-close integration. For example, at my previous firm, I sourced a target through industry networking, conducted financial and operational due diligence, built valuation models, and helped negotiate deal terms. Post-close, I worked with integration teams to align systems and culture.
How do you approach financial modeling for a potential acquisition?
I start by understanding the target's business model and key drivers. I build a DCF model using projected cash flows, perform comparable company analysis to derive valuation multiples, and consider synergies. I also stress-test assumptions to assess downside risks and ensure the model is flexible for scenario analysis.
Tell us about a time you managed a cross-functional deal team with conflicting priorities. How did you handle it?
In one acquisition, the finance team wanted rapid cost synergies while product wanted to preserve the target's culture to retain talent. I facilitated joint workshops to align on strategic goals, created a phased integration plan that balanced both needs, and established clear communication channels to address concerns promptly.
How do you evaluate strategic fit versus financial return in a potential acquisition?
I use a balanced scorecard approach: financial metrics like IRR and ROIC are essential, but I also assess strategic aspects such as product gap filling, technology synergy, and market expansion. I prioritize deals that offer both strong returns and align with the company's long-term vision.
What do you know about HubSpot's business model and how would you identify acquisition targets that complement it?
HubSpot operates a SaaS model with a strong inbound marketing and CRM platform. I would look for targets that enhance AI capabilities, expand into adjacent verticals like customer service or sales engagement, or offer complementary data analytics. I'd also consider startups with strong cultural fits and customer-centric solutions.
