Can you describe your experience leading a VFX team on a shipped title?
I led a team of five VFX artists on a AAA first-person shooter. I established workflows, conducted regular reviews, and mentored junior artists, resulting in consistent quality and timely delivery.
How do you approach creating real-time effects that balance performance and visual quality?
I prioritize optimizing shaders and particle counts while using techniques like LODs and texture atlases. I collaborate with engineers to ensure effects meet performance budgets.
Describe a time you had to provide constructive feedback to a team member. How did you handle it?
I had an artist who struggled with feedback. I scheduled one-on-one meetings to understand their perspective and provided specific, actionable suggestions. Over time, their work improved significantly.
How do you ensure artistic consistency across a game?
I work closely with art directors to define style guides and review assets regularly. I also conduct team workshops to align on visual direction and use reference materials.
What is your experience with UE5's VFX tools, and how have you used them?
I have extensive experience with Niagara and Cascade in UE5. I've created complex particle systems and materials, and I've optimized them for performance on multiple platforms.
