Sample interview questions
How do you approach a patient who feels overwhelmed by multiple medical and social needs?

I begin by listening without interruption and confirming the patient's immediate concerns and goals. I then assess urgency, identify barriers such as transportation or food access, and break the plan into manageable next steps with clear follow-up.

Describe how you prioritize tasks when several patients need help at once.

I use clinical urgency, safety risk, time-sensitive care needs, and the patient's ability to act independently to prioritize work. I document decisions, communicate expected timelines, and reassess priorities as new information becomes available.

How would you build trust with a patient during a remote video or phone interaction?

I establish rapport by introducing my role clearly, using empathetic and plain language, and giving the patient time to share their perspective. I confirm understanding through teach-back and follow through reliably on agreed actions.

Tell us about a time you helped resolve a barrier to care.

In a prior care-coordination situation, I identified that a patient was missing appointments because of transportation limitations. I connected the patient with available transport resources, coordinated scheduling with the care team, and followed up to confirm the plan was working.

How do you adapt to unfamiliar healthcare technology or workflows?

I learn the purpose and required workflow first, practice in the system, and use available job aids or training resources. I ask focused questions early, document accurately, and share process feedback when I identify opportunities to improve patient support.
