Sample interview questions
How would you approach Golden Child’s rebrand while preserving the elements customers already recognize?

I would begin with an audit of existing customer touchpoints, customer sentiment, competitive positioning, and the visual and verbal assets that currently create recognition. I would define a focused set of brand principles and a flexible identity system, then prioritize the highest-impact rollout moments—packaging, website, and launch campaigns—while creating practical standards for the team to apply consistently.

Describe how you have taken packaging from concept through production.

I start by aligning packaging objectives with product requirements, customer needs, channel constraints, and brand strategy. From there, I guide concepts through structural and visual design, collaborate with suppliers and operations on materials and specifications, review proofs and color accuracy, and build approval checkpoints that protect quality, timing, and budget before final production.

How do you maintain a strong brand voice while using paid-media performance findings?

I treat performance data as a tool for understanding audience response rather than a reason to abandon the brand. I establish clear creative territories and non-negotiable brand principles, then test variables such as hooks, formats, product proof points, sequencing, and calls to action. The resulting learnings improve relevance and conversion while preserving the recognizable voice and visual point of view.

How would you build a lean creative organization for an early-stage consumer company?

I would identify the repeatable, high-context work that should live internally, such as brand stewardship, creative strategy, and day-to-day design direction. For specialized or variable needs such as film crews, advanced packaging engineering, or large productions, I would maintain a trusted external partner network. Clear briefs, planning cadences, budget ownership, and lightweight approval processes would allow the team to move quickly without lowering standards.

How would you turn veterinary nutrition expertise into compelling content for dog owners?

I would work directly with subject-matter experts to identify the most meaningful questions and proof points, then translate them into human stories rather than technical lectures. A content system could combine chef and nutrition-team process films, concise educational formats, owner stories, and product-specific explainers. Each piece would be adapted for its channel while maintaining scientific accuracy, emotional warmth, and a clear connection to the customer’s relationship with their dog.

About this role.

About Golden Child

Golden Child is redefining pet nutrition through an uncompromising focus on health, quality, and culinary craftsmanship. A Miami-based startup, we bring together veterinary nutrition expertise, classically trained chefs, and supply chain specialists to develop food held to human-grade standards.

Our chef-crafted, science-backed Mains and functional Drizzles are designed to support lifelong health. We’re building a brand for people whose dogs are family, grounded in the care that goes into their food and the pleasure of the life they share.

The Role

Golden Child is looking for a Head of Brand & Creative to lead the next chapter of the brand and build the team that brings it to life.

You will own Golden Child’s creative direction across packaging, campaigns, content, digital experiences, and physical activations. Your immediate focus will be carrying our evolving brand direction through the rebrand and relaunch, while establishing the creative capabilities we need as the business grows.

Our ambition includes packaging people want in their homes, original films that reveal the people and decisions behind our recipes, and experiences that bring dog owners together. You’ll connect those expressions through a recognizable point of view, with food and the relationship between dogs and their people at the center.

This is a highly hands-on role. You’ll move between setting brand strategy and shaping the work itself: developing concepts, directing shoots, reviewing packaging proofs, refining copy, and helping the team get projects out into the world.

You will work closely with our CMO and founding team, alongside Growth, Culinary, Veterinary Nutrition, Product, and Operations.

What You’ll Own

1. Brand Strategy & Creative Direction

  • Own Golden Child’s positioning, visual identity, and tone of voice, translating the brand strategy into clear direction the team can use.

  • Lead the rebrand across customer touchpoints, preserving what makes Golden Child recognizable while developing its next expression.

  • Set the creative standard for design, photography, film, and copy. Make clear decisions and give feedback that improves the work.

2. Packaging & Physical Brand Experience

  • Lead creative development across food packaging, shipping materials, and the experience of receiving and serving Golden Child.

  • Partner with Product, Operations, and packaging specialists to take designs from concept through artwork, material selection, physical proofs, and production.

  • Develop a packaging system that can accommodate new products and future retail channels, with clear product information and a consistent brand identity.

  • Guide the design of merchandise and mealtime accessories as those opportunities develop.

3. Original Content & Storytelling

  • Build an editorial and content plan around Golden Child’s food, veterinary nutrition expertise, and the lives people share with their dogs.

  • Develop recurring formats, including films that follow our culinary and nutrition teams through recipe development, alongside portraits of owners and their dogs.

  • Turn technical expertise into stories people want to watch and can understand. Work with our experts to keep nutritional explanations accurate.

  • Plan long-form films and shorter edits together, giving each format a clear purpose across social, the website, email, and paid media.

4. Campaigns & Creative Performance

  • Lead campaign concepts and creative execution for the relaunch, product introductions, and ongoing customer acquisition and retention.

  • Partner with Growth to develop and test advertising, using performance findings to improve concepts, messaging, and execution.

  • Translate larger brand stories into useful assets for each channel, including product pages, customer education, and lifecycle communications.

  • Evaluate work against its intended purpose, from audience attention and engagement to conversion and repeat purchase.

5. Influencer, Tastemaker & Brand Partnerships

  • Help shape the creative direction of Golden Child’s creator and tastemaker programs, helping identify people whose relationship with their dogs makes them a credible fit.

  • Work with the CMO and Social Media Lead to develop collaborations that give participants meaningful access to the food and the people behind it, with room for their own perspective.

  • Guide partner briefs, content concepts, gifting, and campaign integration in collaboration with the team managing those relationships.

  • Identify opportunities across food, hospitality, fashion, beauty, and wellness that fit Golden Child’s audience and brand direction.

6. IRL Events & Community Experiences

  • Lead the creative concept and brand expression of pop-ups, dinners, kitchen visits, and other gatherings for people and their dogs.

  • Work with internal teams and external partners on the details that shape the experience, including the setting, food presentation, printed materials, and photography.

  • Plan how each activation will reach people before and after the event through content and customer follow-up.

  • Partner with Growth and Operations to define the objective, budget, and practical requirements before production begins.

7. Creative Team & Production

  • Build and lead a lean internal creative team, supported by specialist freelancers, agencies, and production partners.

  • Own creative briefs, production budgets, schedules, and delivery. Establish a reliable process for making ambitious work within an early-stage company.

  • Direct photography and video production from concept through casting, crews, locations, post-production, and usage rights.

  • Determine which capabilities Golden Child should build internally and where external specialists will make the work stronger.

What We’re Looking For

  • 8+ years of experience in brand and creative roles, including leadership of a multidisciplinary team or substantial creative programs.

  • A portfolio showing a distinctive point of view and strong execution across several of the following: brand identity, packaging, campaigns, photography, film, and digital.

  • Experience building or evolving a consumer brand, ideally in food, beverage, beauty, wellness, fashion, hospitality, or another design-led category.

  • Strong art direction and storytelling skills, with the ability to give precise feedback on design and copy.

  • Experience taking packaging or other physical brand materials through production.

  • Experience commissioning and producing photography and video, with a clear understanding of budgets and the decisions that affect the finished work.

  • An understanding of paid creative and how to work with a Growth team without losing the brand’s voice.

  • Experience managing internal creatives and external collaborators.

  • Comfortable developing the concept and staying involved through the final details.

  • Resourceful, decisive, and energized by building at an early stage.

  • An interest in food, design, and the relationship between dogs and their people.

Please include a portfolio with your application and explain your role in the work shown.
