Product Management Canadian Payroll SaaS Agile Methodologies Data Analysis Stakeholder Management User Stories Fintech Backlog Grooming Cross-functional Collaboration

I am writing to express my interest in the Product Owner - Canadian Payroll position at Employment Hero. With over 3 years of product management experience in SaaS, specifically focusing on payroll and fintech solutions, I am excited about the opportunity to contribute to your mission of making employment easier.

My background includes leading cross-functional teams to deliver payroll features for SMBs, managing backlogs, and using data-driven insights to prioritize product enhancements. I have a strong understanding of Canadian payroll regulations and have successfully implemented agile methodologies with distributed teams.

I am particularly drawn to Employment Hero's remote-first culture and commitment to AI-driven innovation. I am eager to bring my expertise in wireframing, user story creation, and stakeholder management to help build world-class payroll infrastructure.

Thank you for considering my application. I look forward to discussing how my skills align with your team's goals.

Can you describe your experience with Canadian payroll regulations and how you've applied them in a product context?
I have 3+ years of experience working on payroll products for Canadian SMBs. I've ensured compliance with CRA requirements for tax remittance, T4 generation, and ROE processing. For example, I led a project to automate payroll tax calculations, reducing manual errors by 30%.
How do you prioritize features in a product backlog? Give an example.
I prioritize based on business value, customer impact, and technical feasibility. For instance, when developing a new payroll reporting feature, I used data from user feedback and support tickets to prioritize a custom report builder over standard reports, resulting in a 20% increase in user satisfaction.
Describe a time you had to manage a cross-functional team with remote members. How did you ensure alignment?
In my previous role, I worked with developers, QA, and designers across three time zones. I used asynchronous updates via Slack and Jira, held bi-weekly sync meetings, and maintained a shared roadmap. This ensured everyone was aligned and reduced miscommunication.
How do you use data to inform product decisions? Provide a specific example.
I regularly analyze user behavior data and A/B test results. For example, when redesigning the payroll dashboard, I tracked feature usage and found that users rarely used certain charts. I removed them and added more relevant metrics, leading to a 15% increase in daily active users.
What is your approach to writing user stories and acceptance criteria?
I write user stories in the format 'As a [user], I want [goal] so that [benefit].' Acceptance criteria are detailed and testable, covering functional and non-functional requirements. For instance, for a tax calculation feature, I include criteria for accuracy, performance, and error handling.
