Sample interview questions
How would you handle a customer who is interested in a product but hesitant to complete a purchase?

I would first ask a concise question to understand the source of hesitation, such as fit, price, shipping, or product details. I would respond with accurate, brand-aligned information and relevant reassurance, then make a clear but low-pressure recommendation or next step. My goal would be to make the customer feel helped rather than pushed.

Describe a time you balanced a sales goal with a customer-service need.

In a customer-facing role, I would prioritize resolving the customer's immediate concern while identifying whether the solution could naturally lead to a purchase. For example, after clarifying a product issue or recommendation, I would suggest the most suitable option only if it genuinely addressed their need. This protects trust while supporting conversion goals.

What would you do if you noticed several customers asking the same question or encountering the same issue?

I would document specific examples, quantify the pattern where possible, and flag it promptly to the appropriate team. I would propose a practical improvement, such as updated messaging guidance, a knowledge-base entry, or a product-flow change. I would then monitor whether the change reduces repeat questions and improves response efficiency.

How do you maintain a consistent brand voice while communicating with many customers?

I use approved brand guidance and product knowledge as a foundation, then adapt tone and level of detail to the individual customer. I verify facts before sending messages, avoid overpromising, and review conversations for clarity and empathy. Consistency means preserving the brand's values while still sounding human.

How do you stay organized and effective during a fast-paced shift with multiple conversations?

I triage conversations by urgency and purchase intent, use internal tools and documentation to avoid repeating work, and keep concise notes for follow-up. I focus on timely, accurate responses rather than rushing messages, and I flag blockers early. At the end of a shift, I review unresolved items so handoffs and next steps are clear.

About the role

We’re seeking a motivated and charismatic sales rep to join our team and play a pivotal role in engaging and closing retail sales leads. This is an opportunity to help us launch and grow a cutting-edge e-commerce AI company while mastering the art of conversational sales and relationship building. You’ll play a key role in re-engaging customers, driving sales conversions, and helping our eCommerce brands recover lost revenue. This role offers real growth potential – you’ll be joining early and have the opportunity to grow with the company as we scale.

This isn’t a traditional sales role – and it’s not pure support either. Day to day, you’ll be navigating a mix of customer conversations that range from closing a sale to resolving a question to just making someone feel taken care of. The common thread is good judgment: knowing when to push, when to listen, and how to represent a brand with care and precision in every message you send.

Requirements

  • Flexible work schedule with required weekend coverage

  • Able to sit and view a computer screen for extended periods of time

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

  • Comfortable working with software tools and platforms; some technical or product experience is required

What you’ll do

  • Engage customer leads through conversations that build brand and drive purchases

  • Navigate a blend of sales, support, and general customer care – reading each situation and responding with the right tone and approach

  • Proactively raise issues, flag edge cases, and surface process gaps to help improve internal workflows

  • Identify gaps in our internal processes and help implement improvements

  • Maintain internal documentation alongside your teammates, ensuring information shared across teams is accurate and up to date

  • Collaborate with the product team to address improvement opportunities within the platform.

  • Continue to raise the bar on sales, conversation conversions, and speed of execution

  • Adopt new technologies quickly and become proficient in executing with them

Who you are

  • 2+ years of experience in retail sales, customer engagement, or related customer-facing roles, preferably in luxury or high-touch retail environments

  • You don’t need a playbook for every situation – you use common sense, read the room, and know how to handle customers with warmth and professionalism, whether you’re driving a purchase or resolving an issue

  • Motivated, organized, and capable of working independently while meeting goals

  • Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills

  • A sharp eye for edge cases and the ability to raise issues clearly and constructively

  • Curious and passionate about continuous learning, with a proactive approach to acquiring knowledge about products, industry trends, and customer needs

  • Proven ability to thrive in team-based environments and collaborate effectively

  • Highly organized and detail-oriented, with a customer-first mindset

  • Adaptable, coachable, and eager to grow in a fast-paced, ever-changing environment – someone who thrives on ambiguity and rises with the company

  • Analytical and closely attuned to the metrics of the business

We are focused on building a diverse and inclusive workforce. If you’re excited about this role, but do not meet 100% of the qualifications listed above, we encourage you to apply.
