Dear Hiring Manager,

I am writing to express my strong interest in the Director, New Business Development (Agency Vertical) role at NielsenIQ. With over 10 years of experience in business development and sales within the media and data analytics space, I have a proven track record of exceeding revenue targets and cultivating lasting relationships with top media agencies. My deep understanding of programmatic advertising, audience data, and measurement solutions aligns perfectly with the requirements of this position.

In my previous role at a leading ad tech firm, I successfully developed and executed strategic sales plans that resulted in a 30% year-over-year revenue increase. I am skilled at consultative selling, pipeline management, and negotiating multi-year contracts, ensuring both client satisfaction and company growth. I am particularly drawn to NielsenIQ's innovative data solutions and am excited about the opportunity to drive expansion within the agency vertical.

I am confident that my expertise and proactive approach will make me a valuable asset to your team. I look forward to the possibility of discussing how I can contribute to NielsenIQ's success.

Sincerely,
Jane Doe

Can you describe a time when you successfully developed a new business relationship with a major media agency? What was your approach?
At my previous company, I identified a top-10 media agency as a key target. I researched their business challenges and built a tailored pitch highlighting how our audience data could improve their campaign targeting. I initiated contact through a mutual connection and scheduled a series of educational meetings. Over six months, I built trust, demonstrated ROI through a pilot program, and eventually secured a multi-year contract worth $2M annually.
How do you manage your sales pipeline to ensure consistent revenue growth?
I use a CRM to track all stages from prospecting to close. I set weekly targets for outreach and qualification calls, and I review pipeline health monthly to identify bottlenecks. I prioritize high-value opportunities and maintain a mix of short-term wins and long-term strategic deals. I also collaborate with marketing to ensure a steady flow of leads.
Explain your understanding of programmatic advertising and how NielsenIQ’s data can solve agency challenges.
Programmatic advertising involves automated buying and selling of ad inventory using data to target specific audiences. NielsenIQ’s audience data provides granular insights into consumer behavior, enabling agencies to optimize targeting, improve measurement, and justify spend to clients. For example, our data can help agencies identify high-value segments and measure incremental reach, leading to better ROI.
How do you handle objections from agencies when selling data solutions?
I listen carefully to understand their concerns, whether about cost, data accuracy, or integration. I provide case studies and third-party validations to build credibility. If cost is an issue, I propose a pilot program with clear success metrics. I also emphasize long-term value and ROI. My goal is to turn objections into opportunities for education and partnership.
Describe a situation where you had to negotiate a complex contract. What was your strategy?
In negotiating a multi-year deal with a large agency, I started by understanding their priorities: they wanted flexible pricing and dedicated support. I proposed a tiered pricing model based on usage volume and included a service-level agreement. I kept communication transparent, using data from past campaigns to justify terms. We reached a win-win agreement that included performance incentives for both sides.
