How to Duplicate (Clone) an Existing Ad Campaign
Setting up the perfect advertising campaign—writing the text, selecting the right image, and configuring your targeting and budget—takes time. If you want to run a similar campaign or test a slight variation of a successful ad, you don’t need to start from scratch.
Our platform includes a built-in Clone feature that allows you to instantly duplicate any existing ad with a single click. This guide explains how to use the cloning tool and how it can supercharge your A/B testing strategy.
How the Clone Feature Works
When you clone an ad, the system creates an exact replica of your original campaign. To ensure you don’t accidentally launch an unfinished ad or double your spending without meaning to, the system applies a few smart safety measures:
- Copied Settings: The system securely copies all of your creative assets and configurations, including the Target URL, Ad Text, Image, CTA Button, Legal info, Ad Theme, Frequency limits, CPM bid, Budgets (Total and Daily), Dates, Device Targeting, and Ad Format.
- Draft Status: The new duplicated ad is always created with a Draft status. It will not enter moderation or start spending your balance until you manually review and launch it.
- Title Adjustment: To help you distinguish the new ad from the original, the system automatically appends the word “(Copy)” to the end of the new ad’s title.
Step-by-Step Guide to Cloning an Ad
You can clone an ad from anywhere on your dashboard, whether it is currently Running, Paused, or even Archived.
- Navigate to your Ads Dashboard and find the campaign you want to duplicate.
- Click the three dots icon (•••) in the top right corner of the ad card to open the actions menu.
- Select Clone from the dropdown list.
- The menu will briefly display a “Cloning…” message while the system processes the request.
- The page will automatically refresh (or redirect you to the main active ads view if you were in your Archive), and your new duplicated ad will appear at the top of your list as a Draft.
- Click the Edit button on your newly cloned ad to make any necessary adjustments before launching.
Important Note on Account Limits: To maintain optimal platform performance, each user account is limited to a maximum of 200 ads (including Active, Draft, and Archived campaigns). If you have reached this limit, the system will prevent you from cloning the ad and will display an error message asking you to permanently delete old or unnecessary ads first.
Strategic Recommendations & Best Practices
The cloning feature is your best tool for A/B Testing (split testing). By cloning an ad and changing just one variable, you can scientifically determine what works best for your audience. Try these cloning strategies:
- Test Different Formats: Clone a successful Compact ad, open the editor, and change the format to Sidebar. See if the premium placement justifies the higher minimum CPM.
- Test Different Images: Keep the text and URL exactly the same, but upload a completely different image. Run both ads simultaneously to see which visual generates a higher Click-Through Rate (CTR).
- Test Bidding Strategies: Clone an active ad and set a significantly higher CPM bid on the copy. Launch it and check your Analytics to see if the higher bid genuinely accelerates your impressions compared to the original, lower-bid version.
