Understanding Impressions, Clicks, and CTR
When you run an advertising campaign on Jobicy, measuring performance is the only way to know if your investment is paying off. The advertising dashboard provides you with real-time data, but making sense of these numbers requires a clear understanding of the core metrics. This guide explains how we track your campaign performance and what each metric means for your business.
What is an Ad Impression?
An impression is counted every time your ad is displayed on a user’s screen. It is the most basic unit of measurement in digital advertising. If a job seeker visits a page on Jobicy and your banner loads, that counts as one impression.
Impressions measure the reach and visibility of your campaign. If your goal is brand awareness—for example, letting candidates know that your company is hiring for multiple roles—a high number of impressions means your message is getting in front of a large audience. Because Jobicy uses a CPM (Cost Per Mille) model, your budget is spent based on the number of impressions your ad receives.
However, not all impressions lead to immediate action. A user might see your ad, read the text, remember your brand, but choose not to click right away. This still holds value, as it builds recognition over time.
What is a Click?
A click is exactly what it sounds like: a user physically interacting with your ad by clicking on it, which then redirects them to your target URL.
While impressions tell you how many people saw your ad, clicks tell you how many people were interested enough to take action. Clicks are a strong indicator of intent. If a user stops what they are doing to click your banner, the image, text, and call-to-action (CTA) have successfully captured their attention.
We track clicks strictly. Accidental double-clicks or rapid repeated clicks by the same user are filtered out to ensure your reports reflect genuine human interest.
Understanding Click-Through Rate (CTR)
Click-Through Rate (CTR) is the percentage of people who clicked on your ad after seeing it. It is the most important metric for evaluating the quality and relevance of your campaign.
The formula for calculating CTR is simple: (Total Clicks / Total Impressions) * 100 = CTR
For example, if your ad receives 1,000 impressions and 20 clicks, your CTR is 2.0%.
CTR tells you how well your ad resonates with the audience.
- A high CTR means your ad is highly relevant. The text is clear, the image is engaging, and the offer appeals directly to the people seeing it.
- A low CTR suggests a disconnect. The ad might be showing to the right people but using the wrong message, or the image might not stand out against the rest of the page.
If you notice a low CTR, the best response is to pause the campaign and edit your ad. Try changing the headline, adjusting the image, or selecting a different call-to-action button to see if performance improves.
Monitoring Your Dashboard
Your Jobicy advertiser dashboard updates your impressions, clicks, and CTR automatically. You can view these metrics for the entire lifetime of the campaign or filter them by specific date ranges (such as the last 7 or 30 days).
By regularly reviewing these three metrics together, you can identify trends. For instance, if impressions remain steady but your CTR starts dropping after two weeks, your audience might be experiencing ad fatigue. This is a clear signal that it is time to refresh your ad text or update the banner image to capture attention again.
